Prevention Is Primary

 

             Parent  &  Parent/Child Workshops

   

Youth consistently site their parent’s influence as the primary reason for choosing not to use drugs.  Parents who create strong bonds with their child’s school demonstrate support and concern for their child’s healthy future.  Prevention Is Primary offers a variety of opportunities for parents to be involved with their children in school and to learn more about prevention education.

 

             Program Overview

·              Brief presentation that can be part of a regularly scheduled school meeting.

·              Introduction of PIP teachers who will be working at the school.

·              Description of the Prevention Is Primary philosophy and history.

·              Outline of curriculum format and topics in the program.

 

             Prevention Strategies At Home

·              A description of the PIP program and topics covered in the curriculum.

·              Drug information

·              Suggested prevention strategies that parents can use at home

 

               Family Calendar

·              1 1/2 hour event for families.

·              During the first part of the event parents learn how they can protect their children from

                harmful involvement with drugs, while the children work together to make healthy

                choices.

·              During the second part of the event everyone gathers to create a calendar where all family

                members share ideas on what their family will do during the year to stay healthy.

 

               Family Time

·             1 1/2 hour event for families.

·             PIP teachers read stories and lead activities that reinforce prevention concepts.

·             Families have the flexibility to choose the number of sessions they want to take part in.
